Transfer between vocational training funds

Members that change trade unions are applicable for a member history transfer from their former educational fund/vocational training fund to the current one. Please note the new union needs to have received a payment before the member history transfer takes place.

 

SVS, SV, Starfsafl, Landsmennt, Sveitamennt, Ríkismennt, and Sjómennt adhere to the member history transfer contract between the educational funds that has been reviewed and has been in effect since 1 December 2017. The contract is intended to ensure fair transfer of rights between vocational training funds.

Fill out the application form

You will find the application form here. Please note the new trade union needs to have received a payment before the member history transfer takes place.

Contact your old trade union

The member contacts their old trade union and submits a completed application form and requests a transfer.

Communications between old and new

Employee at the old trade union contacts the new one and sends the completed application form from the member along with member history (over the last 36 months in a spreadsheet) and possible received grants of the member via email to the new trade union, and makes sure to cc the member in that email.

Receipt and transfer confirmed

Employee of the new trade union confirms receipt of data by email to both parties (old trade union and individual) and sends an email to the individual when the transfer is complete.

Useful information

  • An overview of paid membership fees are sent to the new fund/trade union, which then calculates the rights of the member according to the union’s rules.
  • If grants have been utilised from the former fund during the calendar year, they will be subtracted from the rights in the new fund. If no grants have been paid during the last 36 months in the member history in question the member has the option to apply for accumulated grant from their new fund.
  • Requests for transfer need to happen within 12 months after the first payment to the new trade union.
  • You cannot apply for grants from the new fund if your account is older than 12 months or issued before you started making payments to the trade union.

Vocational training funds encourage their members to pay attention to their rights and request for transfer when changing trade unions in the general labour market.
